How to gain weight in the Gym

Many people leave the gym lighter than they went in. How do you prevent this?

Only drink your fluids after your meals. Try not to drink a lot while you eat, this way you will fill up on your calorie and nutrient rich foods.

Like to go to the Gym but concerned about losing weight?

The secret is to eat and drink the right foods / drinks at the right time. It is important to get a mix of slow and quick release carbohydrates, high quality proteins and essential nutrients.

Building muscles are essential if you want to gain weight in the right places. To get best weight gain and muscle building results from the gym follow the following plan: 

  • 30 minutes before starting (fuel up)
    Thirty minutes before working out have a drink containing easily absorbed carbohydrates. It will provide immediate fuel (carbohydrates) and helps spare the stored fuel in muscles (muscle glycogen).

  • At least every 15 minutes when training
    During training, competition and your workout, drink fluid.

    Every adult should be drinking at least 2 litres of pure water, still NOT sparkling, every single day. Whilst exercising we must replenish those stocks with even more water. Fizzy and carbonated drinks do not allow the cells of our body to absorb nutrients correctly and can easily upset our body’s delicate infrastructure

  • Within the first 30 minutes of start - refuel
    Your fuel tanks - muscles - are most receptive to being refuelled and you need to have a sports drink to  help your muscles and prevent losing weight.

     

  • Within 1 to 1.5 hours after stopping - repair

    After exercise, we need to take in high quality protein. Every activity in life damages muscle cells; the more strenuous the activity or the exercise, the more damage that occurs. At is at this stage that you will need to have a protein drink.

     

  • As part of your diet
    Research suggest that antioxidants nutrients assist in reducing recovery time by helping the body combat free –radical damage. Athletes create large amounts of free radicals in several ways. One way is by simply
    breathing in far more oxygen than a non-active person does.
