1.  Regular Extra Calories

A very important element of gaining weight is to make sure you provide the same amount of extra calories every day - it has to be consistent. 

Which is why we don't recommend the 'over the top' very high calorie drinks - you might feel like having one per day but will be struggling to get 3 or more every day.

There are many different types of weight gaining drinks and the choice and variety is endless.

The problem is that most of them tend to be protein based - and (unless you are spending a lot of time in the gym) you will need to have them completely nutritionally balanced (i.e. carbohydrates, vitamins, etc.)

Above right are the 2 most popular weight gain drinks.

The Herbalife product ...

is great if you want to gain weight all over - simply have it three times per day after meals and you will get healthy extra calories.

Use Maximuscle product.....

if you are training in the gym or do lots of sport

The best time to have it within 1 1/2 to 2 hours after training.  Please note that if you want to gain weight you will still need to get extra calories.

Quick Tip

There are lots of different products on the market.  Easy way to spot if they work is to see what you blend it with.

If it states 'blend with full fat milk' it probably won't work, whereas if you can blend it with anything (water, juice, etc.) then the benefit is in the product.

If you like drinking full fat milk get a smoothie maker and blend a banana and other fruit in it.  A lot healthier and cheaper - our manual explain how to add smoothies in more detail.

 

2. Improve Absorption

If you are not absorbing all the nutrients from the food you eat, then you will be wasting all those extra calories.

A condition called negative nutrition affects your ability to absorb nutrients from food. 

If you are not absorbing to the max then you won't get maximum benefit from the food you eat or the drinks you buy.  

Even the most powerful weight gain drinks will have absolutely no effect if your body is just letting all the benefits go in one end and out the other.

Otherwise you can eat and eat but if your body isn't absorbing nutrients you won't gain weight.

However to really get the best possible results you need to focus on the training plan as well as what you eat and when.

What to eat ?

The importance of what you eat and when can not be overstated.  If there is one item you should never do (as for any other sport) is to start on an empty tank.  Not only will you be draining your system of energy - you will also not get the best possible results.
